You’ve come this far fellow girl boss. You have this amazing idea or service that could really benefit others and you’re ready to share that idea to the world by starting your own business. But then you probably think to yourself “isn’t opening up a business expensive? Don’t I need to pay for inventory or an office space?” To answer your question, NOPE that couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, thanks to e-commerce platforms, drop-shipping, and living in an era that lives off of online-anything, becoming an entrepreneur is simpler than ever to set up. Now please don’t get it twisted being an Entrepreneur requires commitment and for you to put in that work. But as long as you have a dream, a plan, and an idea you’re passionate about AND you’re ready to give it all you’ve got you too can be an Entrepreneur. Below are three ways you can start your own business with little to no money down.

  1. Open your business through an e-commerce platform. Running your business online rather than as a brick-and-mortar has endless advantages. For one, you can reach thousands and possibly millions of more people online. Two, you can change the look or design as often as you like for free. Three, it would cost you as little as $9 per month to run your own business. Yes, you read that right, $9. Probably the most popular e-commerce platform people use and swear by is Shopify. This platform offers $9 per month as part of their lite plan, however, there isn’t many features. The basics package is only $30 per month and includes a variety of features, which we’ll get to. Other e-commerce platforms are Wix, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce. The best part of these platforms? They’re easy to use and don’t require extensive web design knowledge.

  1. Now that you’ve set up your store (yay you!) your next step is figuring out inventory. The only thing is nowadays not too many businesses keep their own inventory. That’s where dropshipping comes in. Dropshipping allows the manufacturer to send the product directly to the customer, cutting out the middleman (or woman). With this method you don’t have to put any money up front. Aka, you don’t keep an inventory stock and you only pay when the customer purchases your product. Lucky for you, e-commerce platforms have already done that for you. For example, Shopify is linked with Oberlo, which is a platform that connects you to dropshipping products and places them directly into your online store. If you design your own prints or lettering, Shopify also links with Printful, a dropship service that prints apparel and accessories with your own designed prints. With absolutely no risk and no hassle of keeping your own inventory, packaging, and shipping, this is an entrepreneur’s dream come true!

  1. For the girl bosses out there that offer a service rather than a product, there are ways you can start your own business with little to no money down too. E-commerce platforms are currently booming and many of those cater to services rather than products. One example is Fiverr. Fiverr is a platform where you post gigs and offer services you’re extremely qualified in. It costs no money to start and maintain and of course, you make money along the way. With no money needed to start or run, why not? If you’re a Coach or Consultant platforms like Acuity and Calendly make it easy breezy for your clients to book with you for as little as $8 a month, and they integrate with WORDPRESS, SquareSpace which are both less than $15 a month = WINNING!

There’s a new world out there for entrepreneurs and that world is the virtual world. With opportunities available at little to no cost, there is no reason to not take advantage and open your own business. With a skill or idea, the sky is the limit.
